First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Western EcoSystems.
Field Technician
I had a few interviews to check my skills and see if I was a good fit for projects. They asked simple yes/no skill questions and then asked me to talk about how I've used those skills. It felt like it took a very long time to find out if I got the job.
- Can you tell me about your experience driving a four-wheel vehicle?
Biological Field Technician
The interview process was pretty standard, like what you'd find on Google or YouTube. Just gotta be enthusiastic about the job and know a bit about what you're applying for. It was a pretty chill interview overall if you spent about an hour prepping some solid questions.
- What is your greatest weakness?
- Describe a stressful situation you’ve dealt with and how you handled it.
- Tell me about a time you encountered a hard situation at work and how you overcame it/formulated a solution.
Statistician
I had a virtual interview with two statisticians. They asked me about my research experience, and then they explained the company benefits and what they are currently researching. They also gave me some hypothetical scenarios to see how I would handle them. The interview took the full 60 minutes, and they left time at the end for me to ask questions.
- How would you approach a situation where your analysis results contradict established biological knowledge for a species?
Botanist
It was a virtual interview with a group of four people. I gave a short presentation about the company and then answered some prepared questions about my background and experience. The interviewers were friendly, and the whole thing felt pretty standard.
- Can you share an instance where you had to make a tough choice? What steps did you take?
