First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Westamerica.
Accountant
First, I had a phone chat with a recruiter. Then, I went to the branch for an in-person interview. They gave me an offer a week after that. The interviews were pretty direct.
- What's your approach to dealing with pressure?
Customer Success Manager
I went through multiple interviews for a Customer Success Manager role in the Bay Area, but I would never work for this company! The recruiters and district manager were great, but the regional manager had a very outdated mindset. Despite my 10+ years of management experience, she fixated on the fact that I had changed banks three times over a decade. The whole process took six months because they couldn't make a decision. I'm relieved I didn't end up there, but I regret wasting so much time!
- Why do you think you are the best candidate for this position?
- What assurances can you give us that you won't leave shortly after being hired?
Teller
After applying, you'll first get a call from a recruiter at Westamerica Bank headquarters. Then, you can schedule a phone interview or do it right away. This call is to see if you're a good fit and ask about your past work and cash handling skills. After that, you'll go to a testing site for a timed math test with multiple-choice questions (calculators are okay!). Finally, branch managers will interview you to see how well you can sell their products to customers. There are a lot of background checks, but no drug tests.
- What are you passionate about?
- What makes you interested in this role?
- Can you describe your previous work experience?
Customer Service Manager
I applied online and didn't hear back. I applied for another job a month later but wasn't qualified. I followed up on the first application after a month with no reply. Then, on a Friday, I was interviewed by three RSMs at the same time. I got the job that day and started the next Monday. They told me a story about why they don't give corporate titles upon hiring and exaggerated the incentive compensation of a previous manager who had a stable, long-term staff. They contrasted this with my ability to earn incentives with a brand new staff.
