First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at West Los Angeles College.
Accounting Technician
The interview happened on the same day as the skill exam. There were 3 people interviewing me and they asked me 15 questions.
- Can you tell me about your computer skills?
Tutor
It was a nice interview, not a stressful situation. You just have to show you can teach and you are passionate about tutoring. Just show your subject and you can nail it.
- What is your motivation for wanting to tutor?
Piano Accompanist
The interview was basically an audition. I had to sight-read different kinds of music, like for choirs or solo voice with piano. Then, I worked with a faculty member who led a piece I was sight-reading, changing the speed and volume and stuff as we went. After that, a group of faculty asked me questions about my music history and what I've done.
- Are you familiar with foreign languages crucial for coaching singers on diction and phrasing, such as Spanish, Italian, German, and French?
Custodian
I spoke with three people: the Operations Manager, the Senior Supervisor, and the Field Supervisor. We discussed my past work experience and how long I've been doing this type of job. We also went over the tasks that need doing at the west LA site and whether I could handle them without constant supervision.
- Would you be open to attending school to obtain a certification that could lead to a higher position?
