Network Engineer
I was reached out to by an external recruiter because I had previous experience as a network engineer at another financial institution. The interview itself was a 30-minute call on Teams. We started with a quick icebreaker and then got right into the interview. They asked me about my experience with routing protocols, how I'd troubleshoot firewall problems, and so on. I asked them about their current projects and challenges, and I mentioned I could help with one of their vendors, Fiserv. Even though it seemed like a good interview and the recruiter thought I was a strong candidate, they decided to move on with other candidates.
- What's your approach to troubleshooting a firewall issue?
- Describe your experience with routing protocols.
- How would you go about troubleshooting firewall issues?
Call Center Representative
The interview process took about two months because of some difficulty with scheduling, but after the initial interview, I was contacted 3 days after for a second interview. The first interview felt very scripted with typical interview questions, but was not too difficult. The second interview was a lot less nerve racking and it was almost to get a feel for the type of person you are. The assistant manager was the one interviewing me for that second interview and he spent most it answering any questions I had while reassuring me what a great company Wescom is and reminding me that there will always be support and resources to help your career.
- What are your plans for the future?
- What does empathy mean to you?
Training and Development Specialist
I got sent some written screener questions (around 10) and I wrote out detailed answers. Then a recruiter called me for a phone screener. During the call, they asked the exact same questions from the screener -- it felt really redundant and like a waste of my time. The recruiter seemed super disorganized and unsure of themselves, and even commented that I was "speaking too fast." Then, they asked about my salary expectations, which were in the range they had posted. Even though this was a new role and I'd be building everything from scratch, they tried to offer me less money. They said they'd check with the team about salary flexibility and a few days later, I got an automated rejection.
- When you're assigned a big project, what's your initial move?
- How do you handle prioritizing multiple projects when their deadlines are close?
- Could you tell me about your organizational abilities?
Branch Operations Manager
The interview itself went great, I met with two people and it felt really positive. But getting updates from the recruiter was tough, I barely heard anything. I had to chase them every week for an update, and each time they said the interviews were ongoing and a decision would be made the next week. It's been two months and I still haven't heard back about the role. The job is still listed, which makes me think they're being super picky, especially considering how many people they said they interviewed. They think skills can be taught, but it seems like they're after a very specific type of person and aren't in any rush to hire.
- How do you deal with conflict?
