& Process

The interview process included a technical screen where I had to analyze a simple schematic and solder an SMD capacitor. Following that, there was a recruiter call where we talked about my previous employer, my salary expectations, when I could start working, and how my time would be split between different teams.

First, I had a virtual interview where questions popped up on the screen and I had to record my answers using my webcam. After submitting my resume, there was a brief phone call. This was followed by an in-person interview with the HR team at the institution. Finally, I had to complete a personality test from home using a computer program.

At the Weizmann Institute, the interview process typically includes a few rounds. First, there's a pre-screening, then a first interview with a hiring manager or team member. After that, you'll have more interviews with other team members or department heads. These interviews might be in person or remote, and you might have to do skills assessments or give presentations. They're trying to see if you're qualified, have the right skills, and would be a good fit for the role and the Institute's culture.

I applied online, and my advisor requested my master's thesis for review by the examining committee. They informed me to prepare for an examination covering my thesis, molecular biology, and genetics. I traveled for the interview and was accommodated on campus. During the interview, I was asked to explain transcription, the EGF signal transduction pathway, and the function of ubiquitin. Acceptance at Weizmann requires passing a committee interview, securing individual lab interviews, and gaining advisor approval. I interviewed at a few labs of interest based on their websites, knowing my top choice had an opening. It's important to see the labs firsthand as facilities vary. I also spoke with lab members and took some from my preferred lab out for lunch to informally assess potential fit. First-year students are on probation until they pass their research proposal exam.
