First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Webster University.
Librarian
It was mostly a good interview, the staff were nice and friendly. The biggest red flag was being told I'd hear about the offer in 2 weeks. After those two weeks, the search committee pushed the decision almost another week. After about a week I had to email them at the end of the day to ask if I had gotten the position. Search committee responded in less than 10 minutes to tell me I hadn't received the position, but I have a feeling that I would've been ghosted.
- In one word, how would your coworkers describe you?
Student Worker
After sending in my CV, I was invited to interview with two departments that were considering me. I interviewed with the student activities and services department and the admissions department, and ultimately, I was selected to work in the admissions department. The interviews involved one-on-one meetings and then sessions with a small panel including one or more directors to help them make a collective decision. I knew others were interviewing too, but they made me feel very comfortable and explained the whole process clearly. I had the chance to ask questions and learn about the two roles I applied for, and they asked me which one I preferred.
- What would you bring to this role that distinguishes you?
- Can you share an instance where you achieved a specific goal or finished a project, and detail the process?
Support Specialist
Applied online and got a call for a phone interview. The phone interview felt rushed, and the interviewer didn't even properly introduce the job. I was surprised by the two-part, very specific behavioral questions for the first phone interview, especially considering the low salary offered. It's a good idea to ask about the salary upfront with this University before agreeing to an interview, as the pay is quite low for the expectations they have of candidates.
- Can you describe your approach to managing stress?
Administrative Support Staff
It was a phone interview first, and then an in-person one. The search committee asked me questions about how I work with a team, what I'd do if an emergency happened, and what strategies I'd use for the job. They didn't give any feedback, which was a bit intimidating. It was pretty straightforward. They asked about what programs I could come up with. Also asked why I was looking to switch jobs. They didn't really give a job overview beyond the ad right away.
