First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Wayside Schools.
Teacher
The interview process was fast, and all the admin staff were nice, helpful, and understanding. They responded quickly, and the process went smoothly. The interview was a 3 part process.
- What is your approach to classroom discipline?
Assistant Principal of Operations
There were two main interview rounds. The first was a panel interview with 3 interviewers, and it was quite extensive. The second was also a panel interview, but with 6 interviewers, and it involved reflection questions. It felt like a really long and tough interview process, especially considering the salary wasn't that great. They finally sent a generic rejection email after two months with no call or feedback, which I thought was pretty unprofessional.
- Tell me about your experience.
- Discuss your strengths and any gaps you might have.
- How would you handle potential scenarios?
Teacher
I met with a group of interviewers that included the principal and a teacher from each grade level that had an open position. All of the teachers got to ask me questions about their specific grade levels so they could figure out which grade level team I would be a good fit for. Everyone on the panel was super nice and knew their stuff.
- Can you explain how you offer tailored instruction to meet the needs of your students?
Teacher
They needed to fill the position fast, so I just had one phone call that was about 20 minutes. The main point was about creating community at the school. Then they asked me to email them lesson plans and other accomplishments. The very next day, I visited the school, and they offered me the job. I've heard since then that sometimes they make candidates come in and do a practice lesson.
- How do you best build relationships with students?
