First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Waymo.
Data Scientist
It was a virtual technical coding assessment first, then a phone screen, and finally a last round. I didn't make it past the phone screen; the questions were straightforward but a bit vague, so it's probably best to ask for clarification on questions right away.
- What type of visualizations would you suggest using?
Data Scientist
Did an async technical assessment. No commitment from their side, and they gave no feedback after rejecting me. It's a prestigious company so I guess they can do that. Bummed I didn't move forward. The technical questions were simple but interesting enough.
- Calculate metrics based on a few tables, involving some joins and related operations.
Data Scientist
It was a 30-minute recruiter call followed by a 45-minute technical interview. The recruiter was helpful and explained things well. The technical interviewer was friendly too, like they were looking for a colleague. The interview involved simple data and real-life questions, requiring you to use your preferred coding language. You had to structure the questions and derive answers from the data, covering statistics, data interpretation, and coding. Make sure to vocalize your thought process and engage in a discussion.
- Data manipulation using Python, R, or SQL on a small dataset.
