First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Washington Trust Bank.
Intern
It's a simple interview, with friendly people who are keen to hire you. Go in feeling confident, like you belong. There aren't many technical questions, you should be okay if you know about the company.
- What makes you want to work at this company?
Human Resources Specialist
The communication before the interview was good. However, the communication during the second round did not meet the expectations set initially. The interviewer was nice and made me feel welcome. I would be open to interviewing again for this or another role.
- What is your reason for leaving your current job?
Human Resources
Had a phone interview with the recruiter, then met in person with the recruiter. After that, I had a phone interview with the manager, then an in-person interview with a team member, and finally an interview with a Sr. Generalist. It was a pretty standard process overall, just felt like there were a few more interviews than I normally see, but they were spread out instead of being all in one group.

Wealth Management
I applied through a recruiter. The first interview was telephonic with HR. The person in HR was nice and she went through her form list of questions. The second interview took weeks to schedule with the department supervisor. This interview was again telephonic, which showed me a lack of dedication to the process by the bank. As someone who has interviewed many people over the years for various departments, I was very put off by this process and I almost cancelled. This person was very pleasant though and the interview was more informal. For the next 4+ weeks, the recruiter told me that the bank was working to get a group together for an in-person interview with me. Week after week, I was told to schedule specific times for an interview, and week after week, right before the interview, I was told that the interview would need to be rescheduled for the following week. As someone with an executive level fulltime and demanding job, this process started to put my current job in jeopardy because of all of the time I had to take off for interviews (that were all cancelled). I couldn't be more disappointed in this process. After many weeks, I told the recruiter that I would not schedule anymore time until I received a firm commitment from the bank that the bank would follow through with an interview. I was told shortly thereafter that the department was looking at different options of restructuring itself. I have no problem with the fact that the job was not offered to me. However, I made it well known of my current job and my obligations to it, yet I was strung along with false promises of interviews, for which I had to take time off from work. I was even told that I was the top candidate for the job. Yet, I never even saw anyone face-to-face.
