First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Washington and Lee University.
Assistant Professor
The interview process was excellent, and I received a verbal offer the following day. They were open to negotiating the terms. While it was the best interview experience I've had, I had to consider another offer with a better compensation package. I was very impressed with the campus, though the town itself is a bit isolated.
- Can you share your experience of the campus visit and your thoughts on the town being a bit remote?
Research Assistant
You need to submit an application by the end of Fall Term to detail why you want to do research the following summer. Generally, knowing and networking with more professors increases your chances of getting a grant from the University. Before and during the application process, you should visit professors you are interested in doing research with.
- What specific skills could you bring to the lab?
- As a freshman, how would you demonstrate willingness and enthusiasm to learn given your limited skills?
Web Communications Assistant
The interview process is designed to assess your passion and eagerness to learn on the job. While experience with web design, Bootstrap, and JQuery is a plus, it's not required as they are willing to train you. The team is talented and supportive, but you'll also need to be self-motivated in learning through online tutorials.
- Do you have any prior experience working with web applications?
Assistant Professor
Had a Skype interview to gauge interest in the role and check for fit with the department. Then, an in-person interview over two days, meeting various faculty and administrators. Concluded with a one-hour research talk.
- What courses are you able to teach?
- Could you describe your research interests?
