First, I had a phone screening with HR. Then, I interviewed with the hiring manager, Lead, and the operation head. They were really focused on my past experience and how it would fit with their company.

I applied online and heard back from a recruiter about 3 weeks later. She was based in Yantai and recruited for North American students. I then had 2 phone interviews: the first was with the recruiter, and the second was with 3 managers from the business development unit in Shanghai. The interviews went really well, and the recruiter called me back with an offer. I was super excited, but the pay was way too low. I planned to accept but wanted to negotiate a bit more since I'd be supporting myself in Shanghai while all my family and friends are in the US. The recruiter got offended by my request for more pay and said all interns got the same amount. No big deal, I emailed back saying I'd accept the offer as is and asked about the work visa process. I didn't hear anything for a month, so I tried calling the recruiter, but the number was disconnected. Two months later, I finally got in touch with someone else at the company who connected me with the person I would have reported to for the internship. He said the internship was already filled because the recruiter told him I had rejected the offer, so he found someone else. He had no idea where the recruiter went or why he didn't communicate with me. The whole thing felt a bit shady in the end.

The interviewers were generally professional and nice, but there are a few suggestions: 1. They should focus more on specialty details. 2. The company's engineer culture is good, but it lacks a business culture. 3. They should focus less on the graduation schools candidates come from.
