Merchandiser
This interview process felt super long and like a waste of my time. I went through five rounds, even meeting the CEO and Chief Sales & Product Officer. Honestly, I was hesitant about this company because of bad Glassdoor reviews and unclear company values. But the HR recruiter said they were improving and the new CEO was turning things around, so I decided to go for it. The first weird thing was they weren't upfront about the salary or the role's level. When I asked the HR manager, the salary range was huge ($85k - $145k) and she said they hadn't decided on the position's level yet. Given my experience, I figured they might see it as a manager/senior manager role. I ended up talking to the Director of DTC (hiring manager), the operations lead, customer service lead, two creative leads, a graphic designer, and then the executives I mentioned. Another red flag was only having 30 minutes with the hiring manager. It wasn't enough time for both of us to really ask questions, so it was mostly him figuring out if I was a good fit. I emailed him my remaining questions in a thank you note. Everyone seemed nice, but a lot of them were new, less than a year there. They definitely grilled me with tough questions about my experience and ideas for the DTC site. I got good feedback after each round. Then, before my fourth interview, they told me the CEO wanted to meet me too. This was a possibility, but not confirmed until later. Going into the fifth interview with the executives, I felt good about the job description, but I wasn't sure about the company culture or if they valued different opinions. I asked the CEO and Chief Sales & Product Officer about culture, DEI, the CEO's management style, and his involvement in daily projects. Their answers weren't very clear, and I didn't feel confident in the senior leadership. I'm not totally sure why I didn't get an offer, but as a person of color, I wonder if it would have been different for someone else. Anyway, even if they had offered, I wouldn't have taken it.

Training and Development Manager
Got contacted by the recruiter, then had multiple interviews with team leaders. The recruiter messed up the scheduling twice, making it confusing. They moved things really fast, and I was super flexible, even meeting the president super early so they could go on vacation. After the interviews finished, it went silent. I followed up three times with the recruiter, got excuses about having an answer in a week, and then they never replied. So I stopped asking. It was very unprofessional and disappointing.
- Can you introduce yourself and walk me through your background?
- What's your approach to completing project X?
Sales Administrator
I had 3 interviews for this role, and honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if there were more. The questions felt pretty much the same every time, although a different person asked them each time. I did appreciate that they were flexible with scheduling the interviews since I was still working full-time elsewhere and couldn't always make their initial proposed times.
- Considering your past management experience, do you believe you can effectively function under a manager?
Inventory Operations Analyst
Started with a phone screen, then had a Zoom interview with three people. After that, I was given an Excel assessment. Unfortunately, I then got an automated email saying my application was no longer being considered. It was a decent interview process and everyone was nice, but after the Zoom call, there was no more personal contact. I didn't get an offer, and honestly, I wasn't really interested anymore after finding out about the company incentivizing fake reviews on Glassdoor and Indeed. It seemed like a good opportunity at first, but the more I looked into it, the more negative things I found, like the fake reviews, layoffs, and job security concerns. It feels like things have gone downhill since Blackstone got involved.
- How do you approach repetitive tasks?
- What's your self-assessed Excel skill level on a scale of 1 to 10?
- Have you previously worked with international distribution centers?
