Wake Technical Community College Interview Questions
& Process

First you'll fill out and send in an Admissions Application, along with your Resume, cover letter, and references. If your application is chosen, you'll get a call for a phone interview. If you pass that, you'll be asked to come in (or do it virtually) for an interview with a panel or committee where you'll need to give a presentation. That panel interview felt intimidating because each person asked a different question and then rated you. It went okay, but it was tough if they asked more than one question at once. Nerves made it hard to focus and answer one question, let alone remember the other two if they were all thrown at me at the same time.

After I sent in my application, they called me to set up a phone interview. It must have gone alright because they then invited me for an in-person interview. I was told to get ready to give a 15-minute lecture on one of a few topics they gave me. When I got there, I sat at the front and answered questions from four people. Then, I gave my lecture. It was pretty rough, one person started yawning and another was on their phone. Looking back, I bet they planned that. After that, I was sent to another room to write an essay about how I'd advise an instructor whose students weren't engaged.

The interview had a few parts. First, I was interviewed by a panel. After that, I gave a 15-minute teaching demonstration. They gave me five topics to choose from weeks in advance for the demo, so I had lots of time to get ready. Then, I was taken to a private spot to do a timed essay on a prompt. The interview questions really surprised me. I was expecting questions about teaching and classroom stuff, but they asked a bunch of weird ones that probably made me look clueless. I felt totally caught off guard and unprepared!

The process was thorough and the recruiter was responsive. They were very nice and welcoming and focused on their students and student needs. They knew about the interview assignment beforehand. They shared a lot about Wake Tech and its history, and I liked the diversity in students and majors.
