The interview process started with a 15-minute recruiter call, followed by a 30-minute chat with a teammate who might have been my supervisor. Then there was a 1-hour block with three separate interviews: the same teammate from before, the Chief of Staff for the Dean's Office, and a 3-person panel. Salary negotiations were also a big part of it, with the posting showing a range of $63k-$95k. I asked for $95k initially, and after a few rounds of back and forth, they offered $80k, then $85k, and finally $87k. I declined because it was only a $2k increase from my current $85k remote role, and this new job was in-office four days a week, which wasn't worth it. It felt like a waste of time since they seemed unwilling to meet my salary needs.

I interviewed for a summer internship at a tech company last week. It was a mix of an online test and then two virtual interview rounds. I was pretty stressed because it was my first technical interview in English. They started asking me some behavioral questions.

She called me directly and gave me feedback about why I didn’t get the job. Even though I didn’t get the job, I left feeling more confident in my skills, and I’ll carry that experience with me.

This first chat might be over the phone or Zoom. We want to get a general idea of who you are, what research you've done, and why you're interested. The PI or someone on the team might ask about your schooling, past research stuff, and what makes you want this specific postdoc role.
