Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Waitrose.
Store Assistant
It was pretty straightforward. They asked about my experience and why I'd be good at the job. Then they hit me with some situational questions like what I'd do if a customer was being difficult or if I saw someone trying to steal something.
- What about your experience makes you a good fit for this role?
- How would you handle a challenging customer interaction?
- Describe your approach if you witnessed a shoplifting attempt.
Shop Assistant
It was a good experience, though some questions were quite open-ended, making them a bit challenging to answer. Overall, the atmosphere was very welcoming, which helped ease any interview nervousness. They didn't provide much detail on where to meet, but upon arrival at the Waitrose in Sheffield, there was a welcome desk where I could get all the necessary information.
- How would I adapt the way I talk if I was talking to a diverse group.
Shop Assistant
The interview process included a group activity where we had to solve a collaborative project, which felt pretty easy. After that, there was an individual interview where I was asked STAR method questions about typical skills like teamwork and handling pressure. They also asked administrative questions about my availability and preferred work locations within the shop, though it wasn't really a choice.
- Could you share an experience of working within a team?
- Can you tell me about a collaborative project you were part of?
- Describe a time you faced a situation and worked effectively under pressure.
