First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Waitrose.
Operations Supervisor
I had one interviewer. They asked me questions like ‘explain when you have overcome something’. Then I did a worksheet where they have descriptions of people who work on the shop floor and certain dilemmas that I had to select which person would be best suited to solve.
- Tell me about a time you faced a challenge and how you overcame it.
Operations Assistant
The interview process started with a group assessment where we did a simple task. It was more about observing how we interact and approach problem-solving rather than the task itself. After that, there was a one-to-one chat about my goals and why I wanted to work for Waitrose, the usual sort of questions. Since it was a new store opening with many positions to fill, they seemed to assign roles based on our skills and available working hours.
- What does good customer service entail?
Operations
First, everyone met in the lunch room and got a tour of the place. Then, there was a one-on-one interview. After that, we did some group activities that tested our problem-solving and communication abilities.
- Can you give examples of times you've worked effectively in a team?
