& Process

After applying online, I first connected with HR, then the hiring manager reached out on another platform. Right after that conversation, HR contacted me to schedule another interview for the same day. The whole process felt rushed, and they even asked for references before the interviews were completely done. The questions were straightforward, but the overall experience was extremely stressful. I tried to negotiate the offer, but they never got back to me, so I guess they hired someone else at the original salary. Also, they wouldn't send their benefits in writing, just told me over the phone: 15 PTO days, a 3% 401k match after 6 months, and health insurance after 90 days.

I got referred by a friend and my resume got accepted. The interview process had three parts. First, HR called and asked some basic behavioral questions and talked about the company. This call lasted 15 minutes. Next, I talked to the hiring manager. They asked a lot about my past professional experience and my career plans for the company. This lasted over an hour. Finally, I interviewed with a senior engineer who discussed some ongoing projects and asked skill-based questions related to them. I wasn't familiar with the specifics, so I don't think I answered well. I found out I didn't get the job three days later.

The interview process was chaotic from top management to HR. They kept switching my role from Business Development to Market Research and finally to Product Manager. It took about 5 months, and I was rejected in the end. The HR person seemed clueless, asking me to follow up on my application status, which I thought was her job. The President was also unresponsive and curt, taking two weeks to acknowledge receipt of materials and giving a silly excuse about download times. What really frustrated me was the disorganization, the wasted time, the four 3.5-hour round trips I made, and then being told they had to interview internal candidates due to company policy. They should have known this from the start.

The first meeting was pretty much all behavioral. You know, the "tell me about a time when..." type. It's a lighting company that makes cool new stuff, so account managers need to figure out how to sell products people haven't seen before. Be ready to talk about how you learned something fast and used it. Also, they want to hear about times you got people in your company to try out a new way of doing things. They seem open to new ideas and like people who are entrepreneurial. The interviewer said they have an open door policy and everyone meets the CEO.
