First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at VTM.
Account Coordinator
It's a very structured, chatty, and evaluative process. It's professional, insightful, and fair. We want it to be thorough, engaging, and reflective. We're assessing candidates in a consistent, data-driven, and purposeful way.
- Can you introduce yourself?
Director of Accounts
They'll start by asking you to tell us about yourself and your resume. Then, they want to hear about your experience related to the skills VTM is looking for. There might be some behavioral questions too. They'll also want to know what you understand about the role and why you're interested in working here.
- What makes you want to be considered for this role?
- What about this specific position sparks your interest?
Account Executive
The first step is a phone screen with HR or possibly HR and a couple of account Directors. The next interview is in-person, with HR and 3-4 other people who could be Account Leads, Directors, or Account Executives. Sometimes there are two in-person interviews because people travel a lot. Don't freak out if there are 5-6 people in a big conference room, just practice! They ask structured corporate questions, about a dozen pretty tough ones. It was the hardest interview I've had. They want examples, different examples, and might ask for another answer if yours isn't complete. Expect the interview to last about an hour.
- Can you introduce yourself, covering your current job, past roles, and overall experience?
- What would you say are your greatest strengths and areas for improvement?
- Can you share an instance where you made an error and how you rectified it?
Accounting
This was my worst interview experience ever. I applied for an accounting job, but they changed the job title and scope to something lesser after I applied. I told them I wasn't interested anymore, but they convinced me there was flexibility and had me come in anyway. In the interview, they asked questions outside the scope of the job. When I couldn't answer, the hiring manager insulted and humiliated me while two HR people just sat there. I was shocked and confused by their approach and should have left. I'm glad I didn't get stuck with a bad employer and manager, and I did find a great job elsewhere.
- Most questions were completely unrelated to the position being applied for, or outside of the scope of the position.
- I was asked questions that related to financial management and upper level financial workings of which I had never done and admitted so, but was still interrogated on.
