First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at VTech Communications.
Designer
The most important thing is your portfolio, especially for electronic products. As soon as I got to the interviewing room, I had to do a presentation. I showed my portfolio and explained my work and design concepts. After this, they asked why I applied for this job, especially in Hong Kong (like how long I want to stay). They also asked about personal things like marriage and visa. They were very friendly and fun, and the interview was smooth.
- Can you tell us about your past projects?
- What motivated your application for this role?
- What are your thoughts on relocating to Hong Kong?
Engineer
I applied online and then got a call for an interview. In the interview, they mostly asked about my past projects and experiences. They asked me to describe my most accomplished projects, going through the design, content, and completion stages. I was also asked about the resources I used and about a time at a previous job where I had problems and had to find a solution. There was also a question about leadership, specifically if I'd have an issue working with a teammate who wasn't productive. I felt confident and knew my stuff that day.
- Can you describe a situation from a previous work term where you encountered issues and had to develop a solution?
Software Engineer
The interview included some behaviour questions, mainly focused on questions about your CV. There were also some questions about theories, and some questions were quite detailed, potentially requiring you to describe the process of a task or a workflow.
- What was your role in this project?
- Tell me about your contributions to this project.
- What did you accomplish in this project?
Electronics Engineer
Started with HR for a general chat, then a technical interview with the hiring manager. They asked about my past work and accomplishments, emphasizing what I actually did and achieved. Everyone was friendly, no stress. They do need proof of your work though.
- Could you elaborate on your duties and achievements in your prior position?
- What were your key responsibilities and successes in your last role?
