& Process

Had a quick call with the hiring manager. She didn't seem to really look at my resume. I think we'd both agree it wasn't the best use of our time. She decided pretty fast that I wasn't the right fit, but at least she was clear right away that we weren't moving on. That's totally fine with me.

The first chat with the Creative Director was fantastic, super friendly and open. But the follow-up was a totally different vibe. The second person just stuck to the script, no real interaction. When salary came up, they were cagey. It felt cold, but I figured maybe that's just their accounting style. They then made an offer that was less than my previous salary, even though I'd mentioned I was uncomfortable with that. They said benefits would make up the difference, but I pointed out I wouldn't be able to use them since I'm on my family's insurance. We tried to negotiate, and they came back with a new number, but the math was off, and it wasn't what they said it would be. I'm not sure if they were playing games, but it felt like a runaround. I saw it as a red flag and decided to pass. It was a shame after how great the first interview felt, but clearly, management wasn't on the same page.

I did the first interview for the AC role, then I decided not to move on. My impression is that if you do continue after the first interview, you have to do a project that you present to a panel. VSC PR seems like a pretty good company, and I think they have a great client base. It's on the smaller side, which is cool if you want a close environment, but honestly, it was one of the worst interviews I've ever had. The interviewer seemed really checked out, like they were on their phone and not listening. I had to repeat myself a few times because of distractions. And then, they said they'd send the project over soon after the interview, but I didn't hear anything for days. I'm not saying the whole company is bad, but that interview experience was a major red flag for me. Interviews are supposed to be a two-way street, and having such an unprofessional interviewer really made me not want to work there.

We start with a quick phone chat with HR, then you'll get a project where you'll create a PR plan for a current client to show off your writing and creative chops. After that, you'll chat with two folks currently at VSC to see if you're a good fit for the team and company. Finally, HR will let you know if we're moving forward with an offer.
