First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vorys Sater Seymour and Pease.
Data Analyst
The interview process was long overall, but I met with several nice people, so it was bearable. There was a values interview which was the most grueling, but they made it an easy process.
- What's your approach to handling a disagreement with a coworker?
Devops Engineer
I applied on LinkedIn and got contacted by a recruiter who set up an interview with the hiring manager. There were 2 interviews total, the first was a technical one with the hiring manager, and the second was with the team. After the first interview, they gave me good feedback and wanted me to talk with the team (Director of Operations, Chief Integration Officer). This second interview was just behavioral. About 2 weeks later, the recruiter told me they decided to go with other candidates.
- For the first interview with the hiring manager, I was asked to describe a CI/CD use case related to a cloud data platform.
- The second interview involved typical behavioral questions, nothing out of the ordinary.
Associate
I was contacted by this law firm for lateral hiring. I had dinner and then lunch with several partners. After that, I came in for a full day of interviews. Each interview lasted 30 minutes with 7 or 8 different attorneys. The conversations were very short, barely getting started before they ended, and then I moved to the next one. One interviewer wasn't accurate about the position I was interviewing for, and none of them seemed to have much information about it. The whole experience was stranger than it was hard.
- Can you provide your law school transcripts?
Software Developer
The interview was split into three sessions over about a week and a half, totaling 8 to 10 hours. It included a weird 'values' interview that everyone apparently has to take. The whole process felt like trying to impress a very old law firm and do a bunch of hoops for a company that doesn't seem to want to hire good people. They apparently look for any excuse *not* to hire someone, and treat candidates poorly. They didn't even pay for parking, which adds up quickly downtown. Even though everyone from the dev team to HR recommended me, one person on the interview panel vetoed the offer. The HR rep even tried to change their mind, saying they wouldn't find better. Apparently, the company is really dysfunctional.
- What does "professionalism" mean to you?
