First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Volvo Car USA.
Maintenance Engineer
The interview process was super smooth and very straightforward. I'd say definitely use the S.T.A.R Method for all your answers because they're really looking for that. Make sure you're ready to talk about your past successes and why you'd be a great fit.
- Tell me about a time you encountered a challenge but managed to overcome it and succeed.
Accountant
We had one online meeting with the department leaders and then a second in-person interview with the rest of the team. The questions covered technical accounting, behavioral aspects to understand your experience, and how you'd approach ambiguous tasks.
- Considering the placement of an electric charger in a town, what location would you choose and what is your reasoning?
- Questions regarding technical accounting principles.
- Questions about your past experiences and how you've handled situations.
Director
The interview process was great. Had some great conversations with a few people. Great questions were asked but the fixed time frame rushed the experience. After the interview I was told at the end of the week I would hear something. Never got a call, I reached out 2 times over 2 weeks with no response back. Extremely unprofessional, especially for a position with so few actual interview applicants. If someone does not get a position after an interview it is expected they are called and provided feedback from that interview. This is normal procedure. While this may be an instance of just a bad recruiter they are the face of the company to the person until hired. As far as I’m concerned Volvo while praised upon culture and values don’t have enough time to do proper follow ups with people they deemed qualified to interview.
- Tell me about a situation when XYZ occurred.
Senior Analyst
I had three rounds of interviews total (one phone screen and two in-person) and the whole process took 4 months from start to finish. My hiring manager was a former colleague who promised to keep me updated, but after a few email exchanges, he went silent and never followed through. Ultimately, the company decided to go in a different direction, despite telling me I had all the necessary skills in the interviews. The Director for this area is new to the company and the automotive industry, and it seems they don't really value experience in this field, judging by the number of young, inexperienced employees they have. It's tough to compete in the luxury market with such a team.
- Can you tell me about your greatest failure?
