& Process

A recruiter reached out about Vixxo, and the compensation seemed good, so I agreed to talk. After a promising initial phone call, they invited me to Phoenix for an in-person interview with their leadership team. However, upon arrival, it seemed they were unprepared for my visit. There was a lack of a formal greeting, and the whole process felt disorganized and unplanned. Some interviewers seemed surprised to meet with me. I ended up waiting around a lot for people to become available, and the experience was quite strange and awkward. Honestly, it felt a bit disrespectful, and I probably would have left if I hadn't already traveled so far. The actual interviews weren't terrible, despite the evident lack of preparation. Most people were professional, except for the CSMO, who I would have reported to. He immediately came across as extremely arrogant, mentioning his background outside of our industry. The only positive part was the end, but getting reimbursed for my travel expenses took over a month and multiple follow-ups. I had to resend their own email confirming reimbursement.

I applied online and got an email a few days later for a phone interview with the recruiter. After that, I was invited to the office for a panel interview, then an interview with the director of application, and finally another one with the recruiter. The panel interview had four people: a manager, a senior engineer, and two other engineers. The interviewers weren't really prepared and were looking at my resume during the interview, which led to some awkward silences. They asked me about my projects and school. They also asked what device I use, and I said iPhone, which seemed to disappoint them a bit. The interview with the director was casual; he asked about my past experiences and school projects. The recruiter just wanted to meet me in person.

I had two interviews with two different recruiters. Both told me I'd hear back by the end of the week about interviewing with the next level manager. One recruiter didn't respond at all, not even after I followed up a week later. The second recruiter was nice enough to send a rejection email. It's confusing because both recruiters said the next step would be an interview with the next level manager, and one even talked about the role's funding. Why tell a candidate you're scheduling the next interview and ask about availability, then just ghost them or send a rejection instead of that interview invite?

I had two phone interviews that went really well. First, I spoke with the recruiter to discuss my experience. Then, I spoke with the VP of operations to make sure I was knowledgeable in the area they were interviewing for. After that, I had a face-to-face interview where I met with the account managers. The overall interview process was very pleasant, and everyone was extremely kind. I really enjoyed talking with the hiring managers.
