First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at VIVA Creative.
Production Coordinator
They asked me to submit design software samples from a previous company and then didn't proceed to speak with me in real time. The job description was for Vectorworks, which they were offering as an entry-level position, but still wanted you to have 2 years experience.
- Tell me about your Vectorworks skills.
Motion Graphic Artist
Interview process was great. Met with the director in Motion Graphics for a walkin interview. Dressed up creative-business-casual with laptop in hand to review additional materials I had outside my demo reel. He was relaxed and nice. Asked creative questions related to their business. Was called in for a second interview meeting with the president of motion graphics. Also met with the same director. Very casual, candid conversation. Really nice people. Their office is being renovated showing a lot of promise. The energy in the graphics side of the business is buzzing and already met many nice and talented individuals.
- Can you walk me through your production process?
- How do you typically collaborate within a creative team?
- Could you tell us more about your background and past work?
Digital Producer
First I talked to HR, and it was great. I felt like a perfect fit. Then I had a second interview with some creative folks. They didn't really get what I did as a PMO Director and asked for a portfolio, which isn't really a thing for PMO Directors. I did show them some projects I'd worked on though. They seemed a bit out of touch, and 30 minutes felt short for a 5-person panel. After that, I went to the final round with senior leadership. The CEO seemed out of touch too, asking why I've changed jobs a lot. I explained about Covid and contracts, but they seemed to lack awareness of anything outside their own bubble. The interview felt really rude, and honestly, in this job market, I don't have time for that. Plus, they were offering $150k, while the market rate is $160-200k plus bonus and benefits. I guess I dodged a bullet since they rejected me anyway. It would have been a pay cut, and I would have declined if offered because they were insulting and rude, totally out of touch. It would have been a step back for me.
- What's the reason for your job hopping?
Director
Very pleasant interview. Before the interview I was very unsure but the recruiter was so enthusiastic about my candidacy that I became interested in the position. I expect to move to a second interview very quickly.
- Tell me about how you managed your previous teams.
