My interview was a bit unusual. I was at the mall one day and happened to run into the district manager who was visiting the store. I'd forgotten where I parked, so we started talking casually about the economy and how tough it is to find a job no matter what you do. I mentioned I was a nurse, and he immediately said he was interested in talking more. We ended up sitting at Cinnabon and chatted for over an hour, and I didn't even realize it was an interview until he offered me the store manager job right then and there.

Behavioral Other

The interview process was more of a "do you know what you are doing" and here is an introduction to the store kind of thing. I was asked more than a few questions about my work history, though I had the distinct feeling that my references were checked. Once my background check cleared I went to one of their training stores to learn the register and sales pitch, then the store was mine. Not much to it with the right experience. The interview is more of an informal let's see what you know than a "how can you handle this situation".

Behavioral Technical

I had two phone interviews with different District Managers. They both asked similar general questions like why I want to work for the company, about a difficult customer, and what motivates me. A big topic they both brought up was how Vitamin World is superior to competitors because it's a sales-focused organization. They explained that they enthusiastically engage all customers, contrasting this with GNC's approach of passively waiting behind the counter to market to bodybuilders.
