First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vista Outdoor.
Financial Planning and Analysis Manager
The phone interview was fine, but I wasn’t impressed with the in person interview process. I interviewed for 2.5 hours with 4 different people separately. They all asked pretty much the same questions. It would have been better to have a panel interview. I was also less than impressed when I called the hiring manager to follow-up and instead of receiving a return phone call got an email from HR letting me know I didn’t get the job. I feel like it’s common courtesy to call people back and provide feedback on their interview.
- How do you handle situations involving change?
Manager
The interview process with Vista was really bad. Communication was poor, some interviewers didn't show up, and Vista never followed up. They said they'd get back to me in a week, and even though I tried to reach them multiple times, they just went silent. I get that they might have gone with someone else, but it's just common courtesy to at least let candidates know the decision, instead of ghosting them. Vista seems to prefer ignoring candidates they don't want to move forward with.
- Can you share an experience of overcoming a difficult situation?
Marketing Manager
I had a call with the recruiter which went well and they seemed keen to move me forward. However, it took weeks for them to schedule a call with the hiring manager, even after I followed up three times. They didn't even apologize. After speaking with the hiring manager, I never heard back, despite reaching out again. It's disappointing not to receive a response, even if it's to say they aren't proceeding with my application. The communication was extremely unprofessional.
- Can you tell me what you're seeking in a job?
Purchasing
The interview was conducted over the phone with the purchasing manager, the buyer who would be the intern mentor, and an HR representative. They asked various questions. They inquired about my ability to use Microsoft applications and my knowledge of their products. They also tried to assess how I would fit into their company culture. Besides these, the questions were standard interview queries about past work experience, conflict resolution, and education.
- Can you describe your experience with Microsoft applications like Excel and Word?
