People Operations Specialist
The interview process was generally straightforward, but the communication with the recruitment team was terrible. I initially had an easy time scheduling a phone screen with a recruiter, but they never called at the appointed time. I emailed them to let them know I was waiting and offered to reschedule. They responded quickly, apologized, and we set up a new time. The recruiter then had another HR team member conduct the phone screen, which went well. After two more interviews with VHL, I was informed I'd be interviewing with the original recruiter who had missed the first call. I tried to be understanding the first time, but the same thing happened again. The recruiter was a no-show for our second scheduled interview, with no communication beforehand. They called me two hours later, after I was no longer available, and then emailed claiming they tried to reach me and I didn't answer. They didn't acknowledge missing our scheduled time. While I get that work can be busy, it was really discouraging to see a recruiter miss interviews without taking any responsibility. VHL seems like a decent company, but be cautious about their interview process and the recruitment team's follow-through.

HR Specialist
I applied for a role at VHL in December and was referred by someone who works there. I had really good conversations during the interviews, and it seemed like I was a solid match for what the manager and team were looking for regarding experience and fitting into the company culture. After my onsite interview, I didn't hear anything back from the hiring manager or the team, not even a confirmation that they decided to go with someone else or that I was out of the running. After trying to reach out several times, I got an automated email from their system saying they'd changed some things about the role and asked if I was still interested or if I was still a good fit. My post-interview experience was terrible and honestly embarrassing for the person who referred me and had such good things to say about the team. However, my interactions with the HR team members themselves were great. I wish them luck with their hiring, but the complete lack of communication and organization were major red flags for me as a candidate.

Sales Representative
Even though I didn't get the job, it was a really positive interview experience! The team, manager, and HR were all involved in a very thorough interview process. The recruiter was fantastic - very informative and knowledgeable about the company and the sales role itself, unlike others I've encountered. She asked insightful and detailed questions. Everyone I spoke with seemed genuinely enthusiastic and passionate about their work. The Sales Manager was friendly and came across as supportive, aiming to help her team succeed, making the conversation feel more natural and less like a formal interview. All the people I interacted with were great and made me eager to join the company. The process is quite detailed and lengthy, but the recruiter ensured I was always updated on the progress.

Senior Frontend Developer
This was a super long interview process, taking about three months from application to not getting an offer after 8 interviews. The engineering team seemed pretty down-to-earth. The interview questions felt formulaic in about 4 of the interviews. HR interactions at the end were rough - deadlines were missed multiple times, sometimes blamed on computer issues or unreceived voicemails. It felt like they were hiring a lot of people and individual candidates weren't a high priority. Email communication would have been better. HR also accused me of 'haggling over everything' when it was about vacation time, and apparently, they don't negotiate. They also asked questions on a call and then seemed to forget them, passing on unrelated questions later. The relationship between HR and engineering didn't seem great. Red flags included a large offshore development presence (a 'wink-wink' different company), a slow CI process (30+ mins), what seems like a legacy tech stack, and concerns about work-life balance due to the on-call schedule.
