First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Virtual Gurus.
Virtual Assistant
It was a simple interview process. The interviewer was nice and friendly, but a little disorganized. Since the job is remote, I think they wanted to see if I was professional and responsible enough to be trusted to do the work and interact with their clients.
- How does your prior experience relate to this job?
- What are your career aspirations for this role?
Embedded Software Engineer
First, there was a technical round where they asked basic C questions and about my latest project from my previous company. Then, an HR round where we discussed salary, my availability to join, notice period, company rules, and benefits.
- What is your knowledge of basic C?
- Can you tell me about the latest project you worked on at your last company?
Operations Manager
The interview process involved an initial pre-screen call, followed by an in-person interview, and then a final follow-up call. It was a nice experience compared to other companies that have way too many interviews, panels, case studies, and long waits. I liked that it felt more like a conversation and they seemed to consider personality and culture fit.
- Can you describe your leadership approach and how you've mentored your team?
Virtual Assistant
I applied for a virtual assistant role and sent in my resume. After they looked at it, they sent me an email asking me to do four unpaid assessments. Once I finished those, they sent a link to schedule an interview. I had my interview today (January 2023); it was a group interview and lasted about 1.5 hours. I was surprised to find out the base pay for their virtual assistants is only $14/hour, especially after spending time on all the assessments, prep, and the long interview. It's disappointing that the company doesn't offer fair pay for contractors after investing so much time. What was even more shocking was that they don't offer any benefits like tech, health/wellness, childcare stipends, health coverage, bonuses, or parental leave, even though they pay so little. And to top it off, the onboarding process is UNPAID. Considering the average US base rate for a virtual assistant is around $19.50/hour (without benefits), I can't believe Virtual Gurus thinks this is acceptable pay for experienced professionals.
- Describe yourself in 30-60 seconds, highlighting your strengths, skills, or achievements. Also, please mention the total number of daytime working hours you have available monthly.
- Your daily duty involves managing your client's inbox and replying to emails. Please draft an email response for declining a meeting invitation your client cannot attend.
- You've been assigned a new client, and you both have limited knowledge of each other. What steps would you take to build rapport and begin working with the client?
