First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Virginia Employment Commission.
Tax Examiner
I had a panel interview with 3 people, and they asked very scripted questions. Some of them were technical. It was tougher than I thought and took a while. Getting the offer also took many weeks.
- Could you answer some specific accounting questions?
Management Trainee
The interview process was amazing and very smooth. The interviewers were very interactive and made me feel comfortable. They were very impressed with my answers to the behavioral questions. It's a great organization to begin my career with.
- Can you describe your summer internship project?
Workforce Service Trainee
I applied online through the VA government website. I was surprised to get a call back in less than two weeks to set up an interview. The interview was scheduled for the following week and was conducted over the phone. It was a three-person panel interview with the manager and two other team members. They sent the questions 15 minutes before the interview, and they asked them in the order they were written. Everyone was really nice during the interview. I wasn't told exactly when I'd hear back, but I assumed it would be about two weeks. I think there might have been some hesitation because I was out of state. A week later, I accepted a job offer in Maryland, and then the following week, I received the rejection email for this position. I guess it's true that when one door closes, another opens.
- What are your customer service skills?
WorkForce Services Representative
I had a one-on-one chat with a manager where I answered some questions. Then, another manager wanted to talk to me. I didn't prep as much as I should have, but I felt like I did pretty well. It was a good experience overall.
- Tell me about your experience in customer service.
