So, it's a two-stage interview process, and you'll be meeting with a panel. The first interview is with three of your potential superiors. They'll be asking you some basic background questions, kind of testing how you'd handle different situations, and throwing in some behavioral questions too. Then, the second interview is with the Chief and Deputy Chief. They'll ask you questions similar to the first interview, but they'll also want to know how you feel about VADOC values.

I sent in my application at the start of the month and they got back to me early the next month to set up interviews. They mentioned that if I do well, there'd be a final round with the top two people. I'm still waiting to hear back, as my interview was just yesterday. I'm not totally sure what else is involved in the rest of the process.

My first interview was on Google Meet and the people were really nice and down to earth. I felt like I could be myself, which was important. This led to a second interview, which was in person. I was sitting at a table alone, facing three panelists. It was a bit hard to connect with two of them because they had their faces covered, making it difficult to read their expressions and hear them clearly. The third panelist did not have their face covered, and it was easier to engage. Even though I didn't get the job, the interview seemed to go okay. They asked about four questions and then asked if I had any questions. I asked about answering their questions completely and why employees leave the position. About 10 days later, I got a rejection email. I asked for feedback on why I wasn't a good fit but didn't hear back.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

I applied online and waited about 3 weeks for a callback. The first interview was in person with a panel of 3 people. They gave me a packet with about 8 questions to read out loud and answer while they took notes. The questions focused on my understanding of the job and my past experience. About a week later, I had a second interview with a different panel of 3 people from the hiring facility. They had a list of 6 questions that were similar to the first set but more in-depth. If you don't get to the second round, you get a denial letter. It takes several weeks after the second interview to hear back because they conduct extensive background checks, reference checks, and employment verifications. Your status online will say "in progress" until the job is filled. You'll either get a call from HR if you got the job or a denial letter in the mail. Calling HR about your status won't help.
