Applied for a Product Designer role and got an email directly from the Product Director to schedule a call. The call was enjoyable; the interviewer was friendly and polite. We discussed the role and my background. I was asked to present a case study from my portfolio. Soon after, I received details for a design challenge. Although I have mixed feelings about company assignments, I decided to do it. The brief was specific and well-written. I had a week but was advised to complete it in 4 hours. It took me longer, and I found it hard to believe candidates could provide good solutions in just 4 hours for a mid-level role. After submission, I had a presentation meeting with the design team and others. I liked interacting with them; they were respectful and offered helpful insights. It was a pleasant meeting. About 3 days later, I received a generic rejection email stating they had better candidates. I was disappointed as I hoped for more feedback after completing the detailed assignment. I emailed them for improvement suggestions but never got a response. It felt like I did free work or they sought new ideas, which I hope wasn't the case. To feel better about it, I would appreciate more detailed feedback in rejection emails.

I applied online through VidIQ's website. The whole thing took about a month and was super smooth. They reached out about 2 weeks after I submitted my application. I had a chat with one of the PMs the same week. Then, another PM interviewed me to figure out the best team for me, asking about my past projects and how I collaborate. Next, I spoke with a designer there about my design approach and walked them through some of my work. The final interview was with the CEO, where we discussed future projects and company objectives.
