Behavioral System Design Coding

The interview process involved a behavioral screen, a systems design screen, and then an onsite interview. There was also a chance of a supplemental interview after the onsite. The onsite itself had system design questions, pseudocode, and behavioral questions. My supplemental interview was a code screen, which the interviewer didn't seem to grasp well.

Got a LinkedIn message from the recruiter and the job sounded good. The first interview was a quick 20-minute chat about the role and company, pretty standard stuff. Then I had an interview with the hiring manager, which felt like it went well. I figured things were moving along since it was only about three days between the recruiter call and the hiring manager interview, and the job had been posted for over a month. The third interview was with someone who would be a colleague, and it didn't go so well. They were late and admitted they hadn't looked at my resume, which was a bit of a red flag. It felt like I was inconveniencing them and they clearly hadn't prepared for the interview. I followed up with the recruiter, who had been super responsive before, but took over 24 hours to reply with a vague 'I'm figuring out the next steps.' About 48 hours after that, I got a message saying I was rejected because they found someone 'who was farther along in the process.' Honestly, I suspect they weren't serious about considering me for the role from the start, even with my qualifications.

Behavioral Presentation

The first step was a quick 20-minute video chat with HR to go over my background. After that, I had a 30-minute talk with the director of product design about my interests and some behavioral stuff. The next part was a 1-hour session where I presented my portfolio for 30 minutes and then had a 30-minute Q&A. This was with the director, a product manager, and an engineer. I thought the Q&A would be just about my portfolio, but they also threw in some behavioral questions. There was supposed to be a final meeting with the CEO, but I didn't get that far.

I went through the whole interview process, but they never got back to me with a rejection or an offer before I accepted another job. They just left me hanging, saying they'd be in touch and then nothing. I wouldn't want to work for a company that doesn't value my time.
