The first round was with talent acquisition and it was nice. I was given a take-home assignment that took me five hours to complete. I confirmed what they wanted, researched competitors, and created the content they asked for. There was something odd in the assignment where it seemed they wanted one thing but my instinct was to do another, but I did what I thought they wanted. A few days later, after they reviewed my assignment, I was removed from consideration. I asked for feedback, which should be easy to get since the company seeks people who care about their work. If you're contacted to interview for this role, review the Victorious blog before completing the assignment. Specifically, read "How To Build a Keyword Theme Around a Primary Keyword." I suspect this is where I failed. (I'll never know for sure without that feedback, but I'm guessing.) My instinct was to do this very thing, but the way it's phrased in the assignment led me to go against my instinct. I feel that the instructions could be a bit clearer and link to references like this so prospective employees are set up for success. The rejection email was nice, as far as rejections go. It still stung after the time invested.

I sent in my application and heard back from Kathleen, the recruitment lead, within two days for an initial chat. She asked me to discuss my background, skills, and why I was keen on Victorious. Then, I interviewed with the director of the department I'd be joining. Next, I had to do a skill test where I created content for a client. After I passed that, I moved to the final round, which was a 2.5-hour session. I prepared a content presentation for the team, met with potential colleagues for individual interviews, and also had a one-on-one with the CEO. Everyone I interacted with was prompt, polite, and engaging. The 2.5-hour interview, though long, was actually smooth and gave me a good feel for the job and the company culture. Kathleen kept me updated throughout, so I always knew what was happening. The whole process took about six weeks, partly because of COVID and the company's shift to remote hiring.

Technical Other

I had an initial call with a recruiter from Victorious, who was great! However, after submitting the edit test, there was silence. I eventually saw on LinkedIn a week later that the recruiter I spoke to had been fired from Victorious. That same day, the company shared a post congratulating the new Content Strategist they hired. This was pretty disappointing behavior, especially after I put a ton of effort into the edit test and didn't get any feedback despite being told that I would. Seems like a pretty disorganized system (especially with the red flag of watching my recruiter get fired).
