First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vicor Corp..
Engineer
Did a technical interview with the person in charge. It wasn't too difficult. Then a manager interview with a higher position to check. Followed by an HR interview as part of the normal process to check for any common issues.
- Tell me your strong points. What are 3 of them?
Design Engineer
So first there was this quick phone call with a recruiter. Then I had a phone call with the Head of HR, both were pretty simple. After that, I interviewed with the head engineer of the team I was going to join. This interview was relatively simple, but since I'm a recent grad and hadn't really studied it, I didn't know about buck or boost regulators. So he told me to study up and we'd have another interview next week. I did that, and the technical interview lasted about an hour. They asked about other electrical systems I'd forgotten about, and I didn't do too well in the end. But that was the whole process.
- Can you explain buck and boost converters, including how they operate and how to adjust their output voltages?
- For an inverted op-amp, what is the output voltage if the source voltage is applied to the non-inverting pin?
Design Engineer
I had a bad interview experience with Vicor Inc. The HR team seemed rushed and didn't really try to get to know me. The hiring manager was the main issue though. I told them I hadn't worked in this field for a while, but they didn't care and acted like my past experience didn't matter. They also didn't use my name, which felt disrespectful and made me feel like just another number. The manager also had unclear and outdated expectations, asking about skills that aren't relevant anymore, which shows they don't understand how things change.
- Can you show me some sample circuits?
- Can you explain these sample circuits?
- Can you elaborate on these sample circuits?
