Event Management Trainee
After applying, an HR hiring manager contacted me for a preliminary chat. They left a voicemail about wanting an interview and asked me to schedule it online, advising me to dress appropriately. Upon arrival, I completed an application. Since the administrative assistant was working remotely, I waited in the lobby. I observed some candidates being turned away and asked to return the next day in business attire for their interview. My interview was with the company owner. Initially, it seemed a bit rough, but it improved when I started asking questions. I was told the position was fast-tracked to 12 months instead of 24, with a first-year salary of $44,800 plus a 15% commission, noting the role involves long hours on your feet dealing with vendors and customers. They assured me that salary and commission would increase after the first year. They mentioned 250 applicants for 12-20 openings. I was informed I'd receive a call by the following Tuesday for a Thursday appointment if selected for a second interview, but unfortunately, I did not get a call back.

- Do you believe you possess the necessary qualities for this role?
- What might lead you to discontinue participation in the training program?
Event Coordinator
I got a call back really quickly after applying, which was surprising because the job postings are so vague. I had an interview the next day. The receptionist was really unprofessional. The interview room was intimidating, and they talked down to me. It turns out the job is actually squirting lotions into people's hands at Costcos all over Kentucky. They post the same job under many different titles like PR Assistant, Marketing Coordination, and Product Specialist. At the end, they said if I made the cut, I'd have a field test the next day. When they called to say I made the cut, the voicemail sounded really unprofessional.
- What would you bring to our team?
Customer Service Representative
Scheduled an interview. Went to the main office and completed a questionnaire before the interview. The interview itself was pretty simple, with basic questions. The interviewer got a bit annoyed when I said I couldn't do a second interview later that same evening.

Marketing Assistant
I applied for a Creative Marketing Assistant role, but it turns out that position doesn't even exist at the company. It seems like a lot of the jobs I saw on Indeed weren't real. Andrew was great though, super informative. They really emphasized how out of 100+ applicants, only the top 20 got to the first interview. They said the top 3 would get a second interview, which happened the very next morning in person. They kept talking about the candidate numbers, which felt like a rehearsed line, especially since the whole thing was over in 2 days. Most of both interviews was just them explaining the Manager in Training program and the pay details ($9/hr plus performance). They didn't ask much beyond what was on my resume, like asking about past experiences or what I learned from them. I was pretty disappointed to find out the job I thought I was interviewing for wasn't actually a real position.
- Given your limited formal marketing background, what makes you a suitable candidate for this role?
