Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Viasat.
Project Engineer
I had five one on one interviews. They weren't explicitly technical, mostly behavioral questions. The interviewers were super nice and the questions were pretty general. They really liked asking about leadership experience.
No confirmed questions were included in this interview report.
Engineering Director
Started with phone screens, then had in-person interviews with six people from different places, done through video calls. The questions weren't too hard, mostly about fitting in with the team and culture.
- Are you a team player?
- Do you care about titles?
Engineering
The interview was pretty basic, mostly about my past work and education. They didn't ask any technical stuff because it was with HR, not the engineering team. They did ask what I knew about the company. The only minor downsides were that the interview was on speakerphone and the interviewer was typing really loudly the whole time. Also, they asked about my salary expectations right away without giving me a chance to discuss it or know more about the role and benefits. It felt like maybe they had someone else in mind and were trying to get a better deal.
- Can you tell me what you know about our company?
- Could you describe your relevant coursework and experience for this position?
