First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Via Transportation.
Business Operations Associate
Everyone at Via was super friendly throughout the interview process. I first applied to Via when I was completing an internship abroad so my first two interviews were on the phone. They were incredibly accommodating to the time difference and even kept me in consideration after I extended my stay abroad. Once I was back in the states, I interviewed with two people in their NYC office (even though the position was for their DC office). The questions were mainly about my experiences, however they are also interested in learning if you can answer operational questions, such as driver/rider acquisition. In the end, I did not get the job and I wish they had better communicated why I was not a good fit.
- How do your previous experiences align with the requirements of the Business Operations Associate position at Via?
- What are your ideas for boosting the driver population without incurring additional expenses?
Operations Associate
I went through 3 interview rounds for the Operations Associate position between May and June. The interviewers seemed unaware of prior conversations, and HR was unresponsive. It felt like they were soliciting ideas since the role is still posted. The first interview involved a case study on expanding Via's driver base and suggested incentives. Similar to other reviews, it seemed like the interviewer was fishing for ideas, and they had a disengaged attitude. The second interview, about two weeks later, was also a case study, and again, the interviewer seemed to be looking for answers, though they were nice. It took three weeks to hear back about the third round. This interview started with 5-10 minutes of behavioral questions. The rest of the time, the Principal discussed potentially moving me to another role on their team, explaining the position and gauging my interest (which I expressed). However, they couldn't offer details on the next steps. I was rejected about three weeks after this interview, which was confusing. Overall, I'd advise against interviewing here as they seem to be seeking free ideas.
- What strategies could be employed to increase the number of drivers in NYC during peak demand periods?
Operations Associate
Had two virtual interviews and then a bunch of back to back in-person ones. The questions they asked were wild, like asking how to solve real issues or hypothetical scenarios that really didn't seem relevant for an associate role. It felt like they wanted someone with manager experience but were only paying an associate salary. Also, weirdly, I never met the hiring manager in person. The company was also super slow with communication, and I had to follow up twice just to schedule the in-person part.
- How would you approach convincing the CRO to buy new software?
- What strategy would you use to price our product in an unfamiliar market?
- What metrics would you use to measure the success of our product in a new market?
