I went through 6 rounds of interviews and a 4 hour assignment over 7 weeks, including a visit to the NYC office. The same/similar questions were asked in multiple interviews. I received very positive feedback after each interview and felt that there was a strong alignment and culture fit, but received a generic rejection email after the final round. I felt very disrespected and disheartened after this company wasted so much of my time and gave such positive feedback for over a month only to get rejected without any real explanation besides the generic ‘it was competitive’ email. After reading other reviews, it’s clear that this isn’t an isolated incident but rather a pattern of behavior with how Via treats candidates. Looking back, several interviewers asked for ideas/feedback for their product, so this process could have just been a way to gather fresh ideas for free. I saw that this position was still posted for months after I was rejected, reinforcing this belief. Candidates are real people who are making accommodations in their lives to attend these interviews. Don’t drag them along and waste their time through such an unnecessarily lengthy process unless you’re planning to pay them for their time. It is incredibly disrespectful. I went into the process very excited about this company’s work and left with a very negative impression of Via/Citymapper.

first round phone interview with someone at Citymapper, very casual and informational. then take home second round with transit data set and some open ended questions. You have about 24 hours to respond, clearly can answer very matter of fact or can go above and beyond and create visualizations etc.

It started with a recruiter call which went well. Then, there were two rounds with directors. If the first director interview didn't go well, the second one would be cancelled.
