Behavioral Case Presentation

Standard interview with CV review and a situational exercise. I met in person in the Paris office with the VP of the region and the n+1 of the team. I didn't get questions about my experience with typical behavioral examples, but a lot of questions about the culture of my former employers, which left me wondering about Via's motivations and their interview structure.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • The n+1 drew a diagram on paper and asked me what would be the most optimal route for the bus to take the least amount of time to reach its destination.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The interview process was lengthy and felt somewhat disrespectful, involving nine meetings with various team members. It began with a phone screen, followed by a series of interviews and informal chats with staff. Then, there was an in-office 'super day' which could include 3-5 interviews, and a few more calls afterward. Unfortunately, by the time I was halfway through, I was informed that the position had been filled by someone else. It was a significant waste of time, and some team members even hinted they felt the same way.

Behavioral Technical Case

There were 5 interviews in total, lasting about 45 minutes each. I interviewed with 2 peers, a sales team member, and 2 senior leaders. They were upfront about the interview process, which I've seen get negative feedback on. I was aware and comfortable with it, as I wanted to get to know Via and if it was right for me. They gave feedback that while they felt I was a good fit and appreciated my enthusiasm, my situational interview answers weren't sufficient due to the competition, which was fair. That said, I'm not personally a huge fan of situational questions versus behavioral ones, especially if you're not coming from a transit tech background. I'd rather ask (having been on hiring panels) and answer behavioral questions and dig deep into understanding how individuals actually act. Product nuance and company-specific nuance can be learned. Overall positive experience and if our paths crossed again I would consider Via.
