Customer Success Manager
The interview process kicked off with a chat with Talent Acquisition where we went over salary and benefits, how the company operates, and my interest in the role. After that, I had four interview meetings with different people in the organization, and it was great meeting and talking with all of them! It was a bit of a stressful time with other companies rescinding offers, but TA reassured me that they wouldn't be doing that because they needed people. I was a little stressed, mostly because I spaced out my interview times with a lot of time in between.

The interview itself was okay, but getting ghosted afterwards really soured my view. How companies treat candidates now, especially those whose careers were messed up by Covid, says a lot about them. My first chat with VGS was great, the recruiter was super professional and covered everything. I even told them how much I appreciated the early stages. Then came the hiring manager video call, followed by 4 separate video interviews with other team members. Scheduling was fine, but it was annoying that even though I told them I was EST, they scheduled the 4 team interviews for me from 4:30-6:45pm my time, without asking if that worked. I didn't reschedule because I really wanted the opportunity. The hiring manager interview and the 4 panel interviews went smoothly, and most questions were open-ended, which was good. My last two chats were with VPs. One VP kept looking at his other monitor the whole time. In my final interview with their VP leadership, I asked about VGS's biggest opportunity in 2021, and the VP snapped that I should have known from their press releases and he wouldn't answer. That kind of response doesn't reflect well on leadership. Even with those issues, I sent thank you emails and waited to hear back. HR said the team would meet and I should hear back in about 36 hours. Three days later, they said they went with a more senior candidate and to not get discouraged. They'd keep me in mind as the CSM team grew. Then I saw VGS posted another CSM position and reached out to my HR contact to see if they were interested in me after all. After two follow-ups and three weeks, I got no response at all. Oh, and I sent 5 customized thank you emails to people not in HR, and not one person replied. I get that being VC funded is cool, but if you can't provide a good experience for employees and customers, it won't matter long-term. This VC entitlement thing seems to be a problem there, and I hope it doesn't get worse for everyone. I wish them the best.

- Can you share examples of how you've improved merchant engagement?
Customer Success Manager
Interviewing at VGS was a great experience. It started with a phone screen with the recruiter, followed by a 30-minute call with the sales team. The final stage was a three-hour on-site interview where I met with five different team members. Everyone was really kind and open about the company and the growth they're seeing.
- Can you discuss your past experience?
- What unique value can you offer to VGS?
- How would you approach working with a more technical product compared to your previous roles?
