First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Verticalmove.
Technical Recruiter
It was a great experience. First, there was a phone screen where they answered all my questions about the company culture, salary, and what the job is like day-to-day. After that, I had an onsite interview at their really nice office in the Biltmore. Just so you know, they only expect people to come in one day a week, on Wednesdays. Then, I got to shadow some recruiters to see what their daily work actually involves, both with a junior recruiter and a senior one.
- What's your motivation for wanting to be a recruiter?
- Can you explain your reasons for wanting to work as a recruiter?
- What draws you to the recruitment industry specifically?
Operations Manager
I first spoke with a recruiter who, coincidentally, used to be a snowboard instructor. Then, I interviewed with the client on two separate occasions. Interestingly, the client kept altering the job requirements even before the interviews began. While the client themselves was pleasant to interact with, the recruiters from VerticalMove were quite something – one was a former snowboard instructor, and the other lacked honesty and people skills, which struck me as odd given the nature of their job.
- Tell me about the client changing the position requirements multiple times during the interview process and recruiters admitting to this happening with prior candidates.
- Why did the recruiter call me a jerk after I inquired about the changing job requirements, and also complain about my attitude towards their recruiting assistant who was previously a snowboard instructor?
- Can you explain the recruiter's insistence that I misunderstood the situation and that the client was not changing the job requirements, especially after they had already admitted to such changes?
Product Designer
I first spoke with the owner about a position with one of his clients. He's quite the salesman, as other people have noted, promising same-day full-time hires after a single interview. I did have one interview with his client, which included two people. One of the hiring managers was well-prepared and a pleasure to talk with. The other, however, seemed to exhibit bias based on gender and race through their questions. The overall experience was negative because the client never gave the agency owner any feedback from my interview. This contradicts the agency owner's claims of rapid hiring. This person is a very persuasive salesman, so candidates should be skeptical of anything they say.
- Can you describe your user experience design process?
Sales
The whole thing felt very unorganized. I was supposed to shadow one of their reps and instead they just pulled me in and had me ask them questions when I knew nothing about the role itself.
- What are your salary expectations?
