Submitted my resume online and then had an HR email and a 20min phone chat. After that, the hiring manager called me for a 30min phone interview. They then set up a full day on-site interview which included a presentation. I also had dinner with the hiring manager. Everything seemed to go well. The arrangements for the interview, like lodging, meals, and travel, were quite good. Most of the people I met were nice. I felt my experience was 'very positive' throughout the interview day. But then, neither HR nor the hiring manager got back to me about the results via email or any other contact. A director I met during the interview told me to follow up with HR in 2-4 weeks. So, when I politely asked for updates after 4 weeks, I got NO RESPONSE! They really should inform candidates of their results, even if it's a 'no'. This made me feel disrespected and left me with a bad impression, so I rate my overall experience as 'negative'.

This interview happened a while back, before Covid. I got referred by someone in the department and first spoke with the hiring manager over the phone. A couple days later, I got set up for an in-person interview and had about two weeks to get ready. They flew me out to Boston for it. It was a whole day, from 9am to 4pm. I had a bunch of one-on-one chats, had lunch with people at my current job level, and gave a one-hour talk about my PhD research. I met with all sorts of people from different areas. Most of the questions were pretty easygoing and not super technical.

The interview process involves a hiring manager chat, a seminar, and then a full day of interviews. If an offer is made, they might try to offer a lower title than what you interviewed for. My advice is to know your worth and be polite. You can often still get the title you applied for and a good salary range.
