Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vertex Pharmaceuticals.
Co-Op
it was a pretty simple interview process, only one round with the hiring manager and some people from the team. they seemed more interested in getting to know you than just your resume, and they left room for you to ask any questions you had about the job/company.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
Intern
The process started with a phone screening to set up the actual interview. Then, I had an interview with two people, one of whom would have been my direct supervisor. They asked me about my past work, my experience in the pharma industry, my research background, and my programming abilities. We also discussed the projects I would be involved in if I got the position.
- Can you detail your previous research experience?
Intern
About a 30-min Webex video call with 2 scientists from the department. They asked some very direct technical questions. At the start, they asked which company the device was from. I couldn't answer that because I'm not an expert in that technique. The interviewer then said they need someone who knows this technique well, not someone who might need training. It got really awkward from the start, and they wanted to wrap it up once they realized I wasn't the candidate they were looking for. This was the worst interview experience I've had out of several. Don't apply if you're not an expert in the position, even if it's just an intern role.
- What is your day-to-day work like?
- Can you describe your experience related to this job?
- Which company is your device from?
