First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vertex Pharmaceuticals.
Director
The interview process is similar to what you might see in the pharmaceutical industry. It started with an HR screening, followed by an interview with the hiring manager. The final stage was a panel interview with future colleagues. HR was upfront about the whole process. Unfortunately, the company didn't follow up after I wasn't given an offer, and I never received any further information.
- Can you share an example using the STAR method that demonstrates your experience with X?
- What is your specific experience and knowledge related to the job's requirements?
Director
I had a great interview with the recruiter and the hiring manager. The recruiter told me they wanted to hire someone in the next 6 weeks. I met with the hiring manager and thought it went great! After a week and a half, I sent an email asking for an update. 2 weeks… 3 weeks go by. I sent another email and it’s been crickets. I understand I’m not your guy but ghosting someone is unprofessional. I’ve got over 20yrs experience and expect more from a company of this size and reputation! Do better because this industry is small and you’ll never be a leader at this rate!
- Describe a situation where you had to influence a group of leaders.
Director
There were 3 initial 30-minute HR interviews for screening. After that, there were 6 more informal 30-minute interviews, covering business (2), HR, hiring manager, peer, and a senior executive leader. The process concluded with a case study presentation to a panel. All interactions were pleasant and felt natural, reflecting the company culture. However, the overall process is considered too long, especially the case study, which seems unnecessary for a director-level role. It might be a formality or a way to solicit ideas.
- What draws you to Vertex and this specific position?
- Can you describe how you encourage teamwork?
- How do you manage competing demands and priorities?
