Data Scientist
I interviewed for a data scientist position within a company-wide data science team. It started with a couple of standard phone screenings. Following that, I was given a take-home science project, which was actually sourced from a public data science competition. This assignment was quite demanding; they provide a week for it, and it typically takes over 20 hours to finish. I'd suggest taking some time off work to focus on this full-time for a few days. After completing the project, I was invited for an in-person interview where the team asked questions, some insightful, others less so. The hiring team included some pleasant data scientists, but also a couple of executives who asked generic behavioral questions without seeming very engaged. The hiring manager's demeanor was rather rude and unprofessional.
- What are your statistical abilities?
- Tell me about your previous work experiences.
- How do your past experiences align with this role?
Data Scientist
Got referred by a friend and had a 30-minute phone screening with a director and a team member two days later, mostly going over my resume and introducing their team. Then had an onsite interview a week after that. It was a long day with 10 one-on-one interviews, each about half an hour. It wasn't a super typical data scientist interview because they seemed to focus more on personality than coding. The team members were really nice, and most of them were senior, with an average age around 35-40. The role primarily involves data visualization. Overall, it was a good experience.
- Can you discuss the projects you've worked on in the past?
Data Scientist
Recruiter set up a 30-minute call with the hiring manager. It seemed to go well, and I was invited for a 4-hour onsite interview. After a week with no response, even after sending a thank you email and asking for feedback, I followed up again. They mentioned positive feedback and that another round was needed. It's been about two months with no updates or replies to my emails, so I've given up. The whole experience felt unprofessional and like a waste of time.
- Could you discuss your past projects?
