Software Development Engineer in Test II
I applied for this job after seeing it on Linkedin and got a link the same day for an aptitude test. I've passed the OCAJP exam before with some practice, but I didn't pass this one. Some of the questions were nonsensical, almost like psychology questions from the movie Blade Runner, I think they were trying to see if I was a clone.
- Are you afraid of playing games outside?
- Would you lie to protect someone you like?
- Do you wake up on time in the morning?
Software Engineer in Test
A few days after applying, I got an email from Vertafore to take a personality/IQ test, about 100 questions total, the IQ part was timed. Then, an HR person emailed saying they wanted to move forward to a phone screen where we talked about my resume, why I'm a good fit, and relocation. That call was about 30 mins. A few days later, I had another phone interview with a manager, similar to the first but I talked more about my technical skills. The last interview was a 2-hour video call with six team members. The first hour was about my resume and how I'd test website features, focusing on my thought process. The second hour was on Coderpad, where I had to solve three coding problems, two requiring full programs and one more about thought process. None were too hard or long. I got a verbal offer about a week later, but the written offer took a few more weeks. I declined because I got an offer closer to home. The process was fast, and everyone was really nice and professional.
- Walk me through how you would test all the features of Amazon's online shopping site, from start to finish.
Software Engineer in Test
I first had a recruiter call, then an aptitude test as an initial screen. After that, I did a phone screen, followed by an onsite interview. The first part of the onsite was a technical interview that wasn't too hard, and they gave me an office tour during it. The next part of the onsite was with a panel of managers. They asked me if I had ever built anything on my own and I hadn't. I think that's why I didn't get the job, which is weird since I didn't mention personal projects on my resume, so I don't know why they'd waste time interviewing me. After the whole interview, I got another quick tour.
- Have you ever built software yourself?
