I had an initial recruiter screen which went well, and my background seemed to be a strong match. The next step was an online personality assessment. Unfortunately, I was not given the opportunity to speak with a hiring manager because their proprietary algorithm flagged me as not a good fit based on the assessment results, even though my conversation with the recruiter and my skills seemed to align. The assessment itself was confusing for the first 20-30 questions as there were no clear instructions, forcing assumptions. The final part involved a simulated Outlook inbox where I had to read emails, listen to voicemails, answer inbox-related quizzes, and solve basic story problems under a time limit. This felt unrealistic and overly micro-managing of a professional workflow. It made me question why a PM role at this level ($90k) wouldn't assess core PM skills like team and client management instead of personality traits.

The hiring process was super fast! After I applied, HR contacted me within 2 days to set up an interview. They talked about the job and what they were looking for. Before that, I had to do a 30-minute assessment that tested my personality and cognitive skills. The cognitive part was pretty tough, a 50-question multiple-choice test for high school level, with only 15 minutes to complete it, meaning about 18 seconds per question. I heard most people only finish about half the questions. They don't share the test results, but it's important for getting to the next round. The remote interview lasted 45 minutes with three people from the team who would make the decisions. They asked questions in a relaxed and friendly way. HR gave me the offer within 24 hours, and it was what I expected. I felt good because it was all so quick and smooth. Vertafore also has a fixed annual bonus paid quarterly and yearly raises based on performance.

I took the picture pages test, twice, lol. No explanation was given. I then had what I felt was a great interview with the hiring manager. I have years of experience in insurance systems and am very familiar with their products. She ended the interview by clearly stating she was recommending me for the team interview. Two days later, I received a generic rejection. I wouldn't expect that from a company considered world-class, which was my main reason for applying. It was not only unprofessional but also made her out to be a liar. Don't make statements like that if you're not going to follow through. I challenge them to call me and I'll happily discuss my suggestions personally. This just happened so they'll know who I am.
