First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Verra.
Senior Program Officer
The interview process spanned about three months and included several interviews. Initially, there were two interviews with the recruiting company, followed by a meeting with the hiring manager. Then, a panel interview was conducted with three staff members. This was followed by a three-hour exercise, and the process concluded with a final interview involving both the hiring manager and the hiring director.
- Questions about technical aspects concerning the standards.
Program Manager
I was reached out to by an external talent scout via email to schedule a virtual interview. It was a quick, about 20-minute chat. The interviewer mentioned they need to fill the position fast. They asked some basic resume questions and if I knew about relevant current laws. They directly asked about my salary expectations, which felt awkward and confrontational, like you have to give a number to move forward. The job ad didn't list the salary, and the interviewer told me the pay band, which was much lower than usual for the industry, especially for someone with my experience. The talent scout was meant to be the first step, then they'd pass my info, CV, and cover letter to the department's hiring director and manager. Verra's internal process involves three interviews: first with the hiring manager, then a panel, and finally a project presentation. I haven't heard back about whether I'm moving on, and the job is still up.
- Can you tell me if you are familiar with xxxxx legislation, covering legislations and legal instruments pertinent to the role?
- Could you please describe your job responsibilities at xxxx organization?
Software Engineer
There was an initial screen with an external recruiting company where they asked about my experience with their tech stack. After about a month, they contacted me again to schedule an interview with the hiring manager. This interview was mostly conversational, and it was up to me to ask a lot of questions. The next step was supposed to be a live coding test, and I was asked which programming language I preferred. Unfortunately, after several months, there was no further communication or update on my application status. This whole experience felt very bureaucratic, possibly due to it being an international non-profit with outsourced help, and their technology seemed a bit outdated, with little focus on company culture.
- Can you tell me about your C# experience?
Procurement Manager
Hiring is done through an agency which I felt didn't reflect the company culture. The agent mainly reiterated what was in the job description, and then asked about my salary expectations, which I found odd for an initial chat. I also didn't know what questions to ask him about the company culture or his experience there. It felt unprofessional. I emailed him afterward to thank him, but didn't hear back. The job is still posted.
- What are your salary expectations?
- What do you do now?
