First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vercel.
Customer Success Manager
A recruiter reached out in February about a CSM position. After a few rounds, I spoke with other CSMs who described differing roles like Business CSMs and TAMs/Technical Consultants, which was confusing since the CSM role sounded technical. I was told there was a role for handling smaller accounts, which seemed odd given my experience with large accounts. They didn't move forward but said it was positive and I'd be a good fit for a Technical Consultant role if one was open. Five months later, an external recruiter contacted me about post-sale roles. I contacted the original recruiter about the Technical Consultant role, which was available. I met with the hiring manager and was asked about my Next.js experience. I have some, but more broadly I have a lot of front-end framework experience. I asked if Next.js was a requirement and was told no. A week later, I received feedback that they were looking for someone with more Vercel experience. It's surprising the CSM jobs are still available given the market.
- How would you deal with customers who aren't responding?
Customer Success Manager
Vercel reached out for a Technical Consulting role and I was excited because I use their products. The process included a hiring manager chat, a competitive audit presentation, and a technical interview. Although I wasn't a fit for that role, two interviewers saw potential and referred me for a Customer Success Manager position. The CSM process was intense, with five more rounds: manager and director interviews, a technical take-home task, a values interview, and a final chat with the global director. The recruiter was communicative and supportive, but after the final round, I didn't hear back for a week. I eventually got a generic rejection email. It was disheartening after investing nearly two months in interviews for a role I didn't initially apply for. Timely and transparent communication is key.
- Were you familiar with Next.js?
Customer Success Manager
The process was really solid and I appreciated the consistent follow-ups from the HR manager overseeing my application. It took around 3 weeks to get through the initial call with HR, the subsequent chat with the Hiring Manager, and the technical interview with the team.
