First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at VEON.
Director
The recruitment process at Veon seems to be quite lengthy and often doesn't lead to a conclusion. There are multiple interviews with different stakeholders, but internally, teams get shuffled, people leave, and the job description changes. Sometimes there are long periods of silence, then they resurface. It feels like there's a lack of clear direction from management, and HR isn't equipped to handle candidates effectively or maintain their interest. This issue isn't limited to specific departments like legal or marketing; it's a general problem. Candidates are left waiting for months, and when an offer does come, it's often significantly below expectations, or HR simply disappears without providing any feedback.
- Can we discuss your CV and past experiences?
Senior Software Engineer
First, a recruiter gave me a call and asked about my previous jobs. Then, they reviewed my CV and decided to proceed to a technical interview. I had a good chat with the team lead, and they sent over an assignment. The recruiter urged me to submit the assignment quickly. So, I put a note in the readme explaining the situation and offering to add tests if they wanted, and skipped the testing part. I submitted the assignment in a week, and it took me about 12 hours to build. I didn't hear back for three weeks. When I followed up, they told me they were moving on with other candidates because I didn't do the tests. I pushed for a fair review of my assignment, which I spent over 12 hours on, but didn't get any new information.
- Could you discuss Microservices?
- Can you explain your understanding of Design Patterns?
- What's your experience with the Akka framework?
Product Owner
So first, we had an HR screening call that was about 30 mins over the phone. Then there was an in-person interview with the Recruiter. After that, I interviewed in person with the CPO. Then there was a product case study, also in person. Finally, I met with the team in person. Then they gave me an offer.
- Can you share some details about your past experience?
- What makes you want to join Veon?
- What aspects of our product do you find appealing?
Business Analyst
There were 2 rounds for this interview. First, an HR call, followed by two interviews with people in the department: first with my direct supervisor, then with the group director. Each interview lasted about an hour. The process was well organized, and the second interview was scheduled within a week after the first.
- Can you tell me about your strengths and weaknesses? And why you think you're a good fit for this position?
- What was the most recent non-fiction book you finished, and what were your thoughts on it?
